What is the Doom X Restoration Project?

The Doom X Restoration Project is a solo venture by modder Doctor Doomer. It aims to recreate the entire lost mod from resources found online and various other sources.

When is Doom X being released?

Doom X is a massive project that will require a lot of work, thankfully many of the assets from before exist and missing ones have mostly been recreated. The maps will be the next stage. So anticipate perhaps a 2027 release date, 30 years after the project first began.

Can I download any Doom X characters like the Trite Mother, Elite Imp, Exploding Imp, etc

As with MelvinFlynt, the author takes the same stance. Not until the project is finished. If it takes longer then they will be released via the ZDOOM Forums.

How much is Doom X?

Doom X is FREE although you can donate if you wish. This is for all you hardcore Doom fans.

How many levels are there in Doom X and how many are complete?

32 levels. Plans are that there will be one bonus level which will have Gangsta Grosse and the rest 1-31 are normal levels.

What percentage is Doom X complete?

Only assets are done, no maps. So at the moment, approximately 20% of the effort required to finish.

What is Doom X2: Power of Chaos?

This is the intended sequel to Doom X. It is a highly ambitious project involving many maps, weapons, perks, monsters and powerups. The priority at the moment however is Doom X.

Who is Doctor Doomer?

Doctor Doomer is the author of the Doom X restoration project. That's me!

My first experience with Doom was in 1996 through the PlayStation version, followed by Final Doom for the same platform. Although my early exposure to Doom was somewhat limited, I was fortunate to experience a very early VR version of the game in the late '90s—which completely hooked me.

In the early 2000s, I started playing the shareware PC version of Doom, beginning with Episode 1 and then moving on to the full game and Doom II. By 2010, I had gotten heavily involved in modding and mapping for Doom using GZDOOM.

At one point, I began developing a personal project I wanted to call DooM III—a sequel in the style of the original two games, as if it had been made shortly after Doom II. Unfortunately, the project stalled due to a lack of commitment and life changes—as often happens. I later renamed it to an untitled effort called Project X.
I had been closely following the DooM X project since 2008 and remembered The Last Marine from the 1990s. In 2024, after thoroughly exploring the DoomX.net website, I realized that MelvinFlynt shared goals similar to my own for his mod.

Recognizing this shared vision, I decided to take on the task of rebuilding the abandoned Doom X mod myself. Since then, I’ve spent a great deal of time recreating its assets from various online sources.
This website documents my progress and also preserves the legacy and original vision of MelvinFlynt (Pierre Ramirez) for what Doom X was meant to become. However, I will be scaling back some aspects of that vision. I believe MelvinFlynt tried to include too much in the WAD, which likely delayed the project due to the sheer volume of content.

My own project, Project X, has now been merged into Doom X. It is the more ambitious of the two, featuring many maps and extensive modifications to the core game. This will be released after Doom X and will be called Doom X2: Power of Chaos. I’ve created a dedicated section of the website for it—feel free to check it out!
